ADCC Clinical Core
Sandra Weintraub PhD is the leader of the Clinical Core and Nancy
Johnson PhD is the assistant Clinical Core leader. Stephanie Fields
is the Research Project Coordinator.
The Clinical Core fosters a multidisciplinary environment for training
professionals to work with patients with dementia and their caregivers.
Social work intervention is available to enrolled participants for
the assessment of needs and referrals to community resources and
support networks.
The goals of the Clinical Core are
- to establish a clinical registry (the Memory Disorders Research
Core)of well-characterized individuals with Alzheimer's disease,
other types of dementia, and elderly participants who are not
experiencing cognitive decline. Studying cognitively intact older
individuals helps us improve our ability to diagnose dementia
and differentiate it from age-related change.
- to encourage participation in affiliated research aimed at learning
more about dementia, normal aging, and brain function over the
lifespan.
- to provide a resource for approved investigators to recruit
participants for their studies of basic mechanisms of disease,
improvement of diagnostic techniques, new treatments, and the
impact of Alzheimer's and related disorders on patients and caregivers.
- to encourage participants to enroll in the Brain Endowment Program.
This allows us to compare dementia symptoms observed during an
individual's lifetime to the abnormalities in the brain that caused
them.
