Eileen H. Bigio, MD
Professor of Pathology
Division of Neuropathology
Director of the Neuropathology Core of the Nortwestern Alzheimer's Disease
Center, Dr. Bigio evaluates the pathology of all cases that come to autopsy and
provides tissues and consultation to research investigators requesting such
services from the Neuropathology Core. Areas of specific interest include
frontotemporal degenerations and motor neuron disease, wth a current focus on
the roles of morphologic abnormalities, such as ubiquitin and tau positive
inclusions, in frontotemporal dementia, motor neuron disease-associated
dementia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, variations in the pathology
underlying primary progressive aphasia, and identification of the major protein
component of the ubiquitinated deposits in FTD-MND. Dr. Bigio also collaborates
with basic science investigators in evaluating the neuropathology of their
mouse models of neurodegenerative disease.

Tobias Egner, PhD
Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Egner’s research aims at understanding the neural mechanisms of ‘cognitive control’; the ability to implement goal-directed behavior and flexibly adapt to changing contingencies. As a model system, Dr. Egner investigates the regulation of visual attention in the face of various types of distraction, using functional magnetic resonance imaging as well as electroencephalography.
